Ribbon, Africa General Service Medal

The Africa General Service Medal, established in 1902, was a campaign medal of the United Kingdom awarded for minor military operations conducted in tropical Africa between 1900 and 1956. A total of forty-five clasps were authorized, and the medal is never encountered without one; several of these clasps are particularly rare. Most awards were issued to British Colonial Auxiliary Forces, notably the King’s African Rifles and the West African Frontier Force. European personnel served in significant numbers only during the various Somaliland campaigns—including detachments of the Royal Navy—and in Kenya.
